Folsom Technologies has unveiled its new engineering and testing facilities in East Greenbush, NY, which includes a 400hp regenerative motoring dynamometer funded by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority. The new transmission test equipment, custom designed and built by Mustang Dynamometer, significantly extends FTI's testing capabilities. Computer control permits the simulation of many different standard and custom vehicle duty cycles as well as vehicle characteristics

Technologies International displayed one of their CVTs in the
New York Energy
Research and Development Authority booth at the 2007
New York City International Auto Show Taxi 07 exhibit. The
purpose of Taxi 07
is to showcase technologies that can be used to improve the efficiency
of future taxi vehicles. The transmission on display was the 100hp
CityCar CVT, an example of which has been fitted to a demonstration
vehicle and is currently being evaluated by an automobile manufacturer.
Current
testing of the City Car equipped with the FTI CVT has demonstrated
significant economy and performance benefits over the same vehicle
fitted with its current 5 speed manual transmission. In addition,
Hydraulic Braking
Energy Recovery, which is a feature of the FTI CVT, is an
ideal match for the NYC taxi cab application due to its frequent
start/stop duty cycle, offering significant gains in fuel economy
and reductions in emissions, as well as greatly reduced brake
wear, saving the taxi operator down-time and repair costs. |
